Dear Friends and Neighbors,
After 10 years of being your neighborhood bookstore, we are sad to announce that Folio Books will be closing our doors. This journey has been humbling and gratifying. We are proud to have been a part of Noe Valley and the Bay Area book community. We have been shown so much love and support and are thankful that Noe Valley values local small businesses.
Our mission from our first day of business was to make Folio Books a welcoming and warm place for anyone who entered, and we are beyond grateful for our patrons and community members who have responded in kind. We know Noe Valley will continue to be a place for collaboration and friendship.
Folio Books was only possible because of our staff of booksellers, both past and present. Their tireless efforts have been awe-inspiring. They have gone above and beyond to make recommendations, find that “one book with the red cover,” and share their passion for books with everyone who walks through the door. They have always been the heart of Folio Books.

When will the store close?
Our physical storefront will close on February 29th. Our website will be open for direct-to-home shipments until March 15th.
What will your hours be during this time?
We plan to keep our normal business hours until our last day, but we recommend checking our website to confirm any changes.
Will there be a sale?
Yes. Starting today, February 5th, we will be marking down books, gifts, and stationery items (in-store purchases only).
Starting February 5 - All gifts and stationery are 50% off and all books are 30% off
February 13-25 - All books are 40% off and gifts/stationery are 50% off
February 26-29 - All books, gifts, and stationery are 50% off
Can I still place a special order?
Yes. The last day to place a special order in-store will be February 16th. Books released after February 29th will not be available to order.
Can I still order on the website?
Our website storefront will be open February 5th-March 15 for ship-to-home orders only.
Can I use my gift certificate or store credit?
Yes. You can use your gift certificates and store credits in-store until February 29th and on our website until March 15. As of today, February 5, we will not issue any new gift certificates or store credit.
Will I receive my prepaid preordered book?
We will contact all customers to arrange refunds for preordered books or arrange to have the book shipped directly to you. If you ordered a signed copy of a book, we will contact you about the author’s preferred alternative bookstore for preorders.
Is the bookstore or the fixtures in it for sale?
For all inquiries regarding the purchase of store infrastructure or non-inventory items please email questions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I have a book consigned with Folio Books; how do I get my merchandise and/or payment?
We will contact all current consignment authors this week about the next steps for payment and inventory returns. Please email email@example.com if you are still waiting to hear from us by the end of the week.
Why is the bookstore closing?
The decision to close Folio Books was an intensely personal one for all five co-owners. We hope you will respect our privacy during this difficult time as we and our staff say goodbye to what has been our home away from home for the past 10 years. While we may not be able to answer every question, please come laugh with us, cry with us, and share your memories.
